What are bitters
Bitters are a type of spirit infused with herbs, spices, fruit and other botanicals. They consist of alcohol infused with a bittering agent or agents, botanicals and aromatics.

What are bitters used for
Bitters are primarily used in cocktails to balance out the often sweet or sour flavours. This addition of bitterness makes for a more complex cocktail and therefore and a more enjoyable beverage. They can also be used in non-alcoholic beverages and foods.
Our bitters
Bare Bitters is a local, hand-crafted small batch bitters company. Our bitters are uncommon in our use of either vodka or rye instead of the higher alcohol grain spirit. By using potable alcohol, Bare Bitters' viscosity is higher allowing our bitters to cling and spread throughout the beverage more evenly. The addition of spices and bittering agents give the characteristic bitterness but we then add herbs, fruit, florals or other flavours to create unique and fun Bitters. We do not add sugar to our bitters, however some do contain ingredients which contain sugar such as Salted Caramel and Maple.
How long do they last
Bitters can last for years as the alcohol in them acts as a preserving agent. However, Bare Bitters are best used within a year or two to get the optimal flavour profile for your beverages.

How much do I use
Bare Bitters are made to be used in larger quantities than ordinary bitters. Because they are hand-crafted using potable alcohol, they aren't as high in alcohol content. This gives them a longer finish in your favourite cocktails but also means that you need a bit more for each drink. We recommend using around a teaspoon or two good dashes of Bare Bitters per drink. Experiment on your own to your desired taste.
